Lake Day Essentials: What to Pack for the Perfect Day on the Water

ree

Spending a day on the lake is one of the best ways to relax, recharge, and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors—especially here at Norfork Lake. Whether you’re heading out for fishing, cruising, swimming, or just floating the day away, a little preparation goes a long way toward making your day smooth and stress-free. Here’s a list of must-pack essentials to bring with you for the ultimate lake day:

1. Sun Protection

  • Sunscreen (water-resistant, at least SPF 30)

  • Sunglasses (preferably polarized)

  • Wide-brim hat or cap

  • Lightweight cover-up or UV shirt

The sun can be intense on the water, and even on cloudy days, UV rays reflect off the lake surface. Don’t let a sunburn be your souvenir.

2. Swim & Towels

  • Swimsuits

  • Towels or quick-dry beach blankets

  • Change of clothes for the ride home

If you’re planning on swimming or using a slide boat, you’ll want to stay comfortable—and dry—throughout the day.

3. Snacks & Drinks

  • Cooler with ice packs

  • Plenty of water to stay hydrated

  • Snack bars, sandwiches, or picnic foods

  • Reusable cups or bottles

Our ship store is stocked with drinks, snacks, and homemade Paradice Cream if you need to stock up before heading out!

4. Water Gear

  • Life jackets (we provide them with boat rentals, but you’re welcome to bring your own)

  • Water toys like floaties, noodles, or tubes

  • Fishing gear if you’re planning to cast a line

  • Towels or waterproof seat covers for wet gear

5. Comfort Items

  • Portable speaker for your lake day soundtrack

  • Dry bag for valuables like phones and wallets

  • Waterproof phone case

  • Camp chairs or a pop-up shade if you’ll be onshore for a bit

6. Safety & First Aid

  • Basic first aid kit (bandages, antiseptic, etc.)

  • Motion sickness remedies (if anyone in your group is prone to it)

  • Bug spray

Bonus Tip: Pack Smart!

Use soft-sided bags or totes that fit easily into boat storage. Label coolers and bags by category—food, towels, gear—to make loading and unloading a breeze.
